Update: A Life Changing Month in Fiji!

“Arrived home in the middle of the night after a life changing month ministering in Fiji. This morning we sit here reminiscent of the closing scenes from Lord of The Rings where the 4 hobbits sit at the pub after their epic journey and just knowingly stare at each other...”

That was my facebook status the morning after we arrived home from what was truly a life changing experience and epic Kingdom adventure.

As I write, we have been home for just over 2 full days, and as what seems to happen after each of these kind of missionary/ministry trips, we sit and desperately cling to ‘that feeling’ one can only gain from an experience such as this, and yet once back home, all too quickly starts to fade amidst the barrage of bills, excess of un-needed ‘stuff’ and the absence of crater-like potholes I never thought I would miss.

How do you write a ‘newsletter’ that adequately sums up an experience in which only a whole book could really do justice.

Here’s an overview.

Jodie, Myself and Keely (our 12 yr old daughter) were invited by Seasoned Revivalists Larry & Carol Taylor (www.goinministries.org) to come and minister with them in Fiji at a 50 Day Revival that they were asked to lead.  So thanks to the faithful provision of our Lord, on the 2nd of May, the 3 of us flew out to join them. Expectation and excitement was high, but as we were to discover… not high enough.

Night after night (and some days) we ministered at the Revival meetings in the hilltop church, Christ the King – Hope of the Pacific.

From the very first night that we were there, we started to experience incredible signs and wonders

Jodie and I have been experiencing ‘supernatural rain’ falling on us for the past couple of years (with real physical rain starting to fall inside our car just before we left for Fiji) but so far not in any of our meetings. On the first night that we were there, the rain started to supernaturally fall inside the building. There was not actual water but it felt like you were standing outside in the rain. Over the course of the month that we were there, many many people experienced the rain for the first time, both Fijians and the international

teams that visited for short periods while we were there. (Many who confessed to be sceptical about it were no longer sceptical after experiencing it themselves!). We are not talking about a drop here and there, it literally felt like you were standing outside in heavy rain.

There were many other signs and wonders, such as 5ft high flames being seen on the stage, gold dust, visions of a golden garment walk through the church and then a rushing wind knocking over all the chairs on one side of the building simultaneously (the chairs literally all fell over – right after the vision of it happening), a blue orb ‘light’ that was in the meeting for quite some time that could only be seen through the cameras and moved around (you didn’t have to take photos to see it – you just held up the camera and there it was. Most people in the church were able to see this.)

I want to talk about one more incredible sign and wonder that totally wrecked me. On our of our quieter nights numbers wise, I was leading worship and at the time in a prophetic flow singing ‘we come to the waters’. Suddenly I was aware that there were other voices singing with me, I looked to my left and saw that my brother Rusi who normally sung with me, was not singing. There were no other microphones and so I start to look around the room to see who was singing, and I began to realise that other people were hearing it to. I told everybody in the room to stop singing, as there were angels singing and just to listen. Every time I sung, it sounded like there were 3 ladies singing with me – only singing when I sung, and singing in beautiful harmony. Smiles started to light up the room as EVERYONE there heard them, including the band. This was not an experience that you had to squint your ears to maybe hear something strange, it literally sounded like 3 women singing into microphones on the stage. I was TOTALLY wrecked! Then the Holy Spirit fell so heavy that night, many were touched, healed, wiped out. After that night, several came and testified to me that this was their first time to hear the angels and that they were so blessed.

We have been blessed to experience angels singing with us and playing instruments on a number of occasions but this time was quite unique and one that I will NEVER forget.

Of course the Lord did a lot more than incredible signs and wonders, but I don’t think we have ever experienced so much, in the same place, in the same amount of time ever before. Hallelujah!

SUVA
As well as the nightly meetings in Nadi, we were blessed to minister in several other venues. We took an overnight trip to Suva where Jodie and I (along with a small team from Bordertown, SA) ministered at a large ‘home group’. God really showed up with many touched powerfully (with some, including leaders, having real power encounters with the Lord for the first time!).

IN THE UNIVERSITY (40 Decisions)
Another night, Larry Taylor and I had the privilege of being able to minister at a University to around 80-100 students and teachers. I lead worship and Larry preached a powerful gospel message. Around 40 students responded that night to be born again for the first time. Many wept as they were touched powerfully by the Lord. At the end of night, we also prayed for a Methodist minister whose wrist had been broken and healed wrong, leaving her almost completely unable to move her fingers. As we prayed we watched her wrist change in front of us and her fingers totally freed up. She also wept with joy!

FIJESUS FEST! (Open Air Revival Meetings in the middle of Town)
In our last week, Larry and ourselves organised what we called ‘FiJesus Fest’. We set up the band on a stage directly across the road from the very busy Nadi markets. And from 11:30am -2pm on two days we had full on open air Revival meetings! The worship & preaching could be heard for 100metres or more around town and right through the markets. The Lord gave Larry a strategy that proved incredibly effective. We had 10-15 mins of full on worship and then 10minutes of gospel message and altar call, and then we repeated this 4-5times back to back. Every single time an altar call was given, people came forward from the streets, from the markets to come and give their lives to Jesus, and to receive prayer. On these two days we were joined by a team from Morphett Vale Baptist Church in Adelaide. Every single person who was prayed for healing – was instantly healed! We estimate around 70 people were miraculously healed by the love and power of Jesus right in the middle of town and approximately 40 were saved. (Conservative estimates).

As well as the preaching from the stage, on both days, the local church and the team from Adelaide did a ‘treasure hunt’ through the main streets before the Festival, praying for many people, seeing many healed, along with handing out flyers advertising FiJesus Fest.

One of the most exciting things for Jodie and I was that our daughter Keely (12) went on a treasure hunt for the very first time without us. She went with our good friend from the states (who was leading the treasure hunt) Rob Pirkle. Keely got all the ‘clues’, the Lord lead them to all of her clues, and in total they prayed for about 8 people, all of which got instantly healed!

One of the clues was sunglasses. When they prayed for 2 boys wearing sunglasses that need healing, the got instantly healed and then went and got their friends and themselves then got instantly healed!! K

eely came back bouncing with excitement about what she has seen the Lord do!!
When I think about those who got saved during these meetings, I think about a Hindu couple that just walked right up in the middle of the preaching, stood right in front of the stage crying and met their Saviour for the first time… it was almost too brazen, too bold, too easy… the gospel was preached and the people responded. Those who had never set foot inside a church.. met their Lord on the busy streets of Nadi.

Here is an excerpt from one of Larry Taylor’s report about the meetings:

We just had an absolutely amazing outreach at the Nadi market here in Fiji. Words can't describe the atmosphere we experienced here today. Surreal is the only way I know to describe it. At one point while Ben Hughes, Kerryn Manuel and Keely Hughes were singing "I Love Your Presence" the glory of God fell on the city and it seemed to all of us that we were watching a movie where the sound track fades out all the street noises and all that could be heard was the silence of the heavenly realm. People in the market across the street and even on buses passing by were transfixed on what was happening in the park where we were. It was a Holy hush in the middle of a smelly, noisy, thriving street market.”

As the meetings were drawing to a close on both days, Jodie went across the road and walked through the markets and prayed with those were selling their produce (all of which it seemed had sat transfixed by the meetings). Every person that Jodie asked if they would like her to pray for them, said ‘yes’, and those wanting healing said they were healed.  What was interesting was that the people in the market started telling Jodie who to pray for next!!... it was so easy!

These two days in the market was one of the most fulfilling ministry times we have experienced.

In the 50 days of Revival meetings in Nadi, night after night we saw the Lord show up in power. Along with Larry & Carol Taylor and the visiting teams, Jodie and I were blessed to both preach many times. The Lord also used us to minister regularly in the prophetic, words of knowledge, prophetic teaching and impartation, healing and training in revival & worship.

The experiences are too numerable to make account of them all here (this is already perhaps becoming a book after all) but I do want to share one more with you…
On our second to last night. We arrived to find the worship team going for it with absolute fire singing one of the songs that the Lord has given me for Fiji before we left “There’s a Holy Ghost Fire in Fiji!”. The place was absolutely cooking and we humbly knew that the Lord has imparted something of what He has given us to carry into these precious Fijian people. While we were all singing “There’s a Holy Ghost Fire in Fiji” and going for it… suddenly the power went out and it was pitch black! But, the band and the people did not flinch or miss a beat for a second… everyone kept playing and worshipping but now with increased fervour! (of course it was just drums and singing that could be heard).. this went for several minutes in utter darkness – cheering, passionate, revival worship… then suddenly the power came back on and the place exploded… We then started laying hands on people and God was moving in POWER! Wow!!! We can’t describe what this was like… there was more electricity in the room with the power off!!! It also showed us once again, that we don’t need anything but the Holy Spirit and Passion!!

On our final night, as is their custom, the whole church stood and honoured us, then sung that beautiful hymn to us in their beautiful Fijian harmonies.. till we meet again at Jesus feet.. first in Fijian, and then in English. Then the entire church lined up to shake our hands, say thank you and give us a hug. Of course, it was us who owed them our thanks, our honour and our love.

Forever impacted, never the same.
